This clock is a variant of the more widely known model after a drawing by the celebrated dessinateur/bronzier François Vion, maître in 1764 (H. Ottomeyer and P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, p. 247).

There is an identical model, clearly inspired by Vion's design, formerly in the Russian Imperial Collections and sold Lepke, Berlin, 6 November, 1928, lot 123, ill. 52 and also illustrated in Ottomeyer and Pröschel, Op. cit., p. 247.
