    BOX: mahogany with brass and ebony stringing, brass drop handles to the plain sides, bone roundel to the front numbered 2831 and above bone plaque signed J.B.MAYO, brass bowl and gimbal, flat glass to brass bezel; case key--215 mm. square
    DIAL: silvered and engraved Roman dial with eight day up/down ring at XII and seconds ring at VI, engraved CENTENNIAL PREMIUM, 1876, and signed J.B.MAYO & CO./Chicago No.2831, AUXILIARY/H/COMPENSATION, gold main hands, blued steel subsidiary hands--125 mm. diameter
    MOVEMENT: two-tier plates with escapement positioned on a sub-assembly, single chain fusee with maintaining power, signed on the top plate THOMAS MERCER, 161.Goswell Road LONDON. NO.2831/Maker to the Admiralty, Earnshaw-type escapement with cut bi-metallic balance with Mercer's auxiliary compensation and circular temperature compensation weights, blued steel helical balance spring; tipsy winding key
