    The case with relief cast figure of Britannia to a swan neck cresting applied with a ribbon-tied brass foliate mount, the back box sliding on to a bracket with acanthus-cast brass gallery and acanthus and berry terminal, with concave cast brass bezel to silvered and engraved Roman and Arabic dial signed 'Tucker/Portsmouth', pierced blued steel hands, the eight day movement with tapering plates joined by four ring-turned pillars, single gut fusee with restored verge escapement; spring-suspended pendulum, crank winding key, case key

    John Tucker is recorded in Portsmouth from prior to 1776 to 1795.

    The design of this clock is unusual. Similar examples, by James Tregent and John Sims, have been sold Sotheby's New York, 5-6 April 2006, lot 305 and 26 April 2001, lot 68 respectively.
