PROPERTY FROM THE PUTNAM MUSEUM OF HISTORY AND NATURAL SCIENCE, DAVENPORT, IOWA, SOLD TO BENEFIT THE ACQUISITION FUND

George James Rowe lived in Suffolk near Woodbridge, and painted various sketches of the area, however he was best known for his views of London, many studies of which are included in the following lots. He appears to have been influenced by notable artists such as Gainsborough, Constable, Turner, Bonington and Peter de Wint, and exhibited in London from 1830 to 1862.
