    Dr. Paul Joannides noted that the composition is based upon a design by Raphael executed by Giulio Romano for the Sala di Constantino in the Vatican, Rome. Giordano was recorded as having been in Rome in 1652-53. The crane, a symbol of watchfulness is in the female personification's hand.

    Lauro Bernardino Coriani de'Conti d'Algarotti, according to an inscription on the mount 'Proviene della Raccolta disegni della Galleria Coriani d'Algarotti'.
