    The canted slightly domed hinged lid depicting the Gendarmenmarket in Berlin and enclosing a fitted mahogany interior with various open compartments, a sander, an inkwell, a pentray and three compartments with lids decorated with a ship and river and a further landscape with Berlin visible in the background and ships on the coastline

    This view of one of Berlin's most attractive and oldest squares, the Gendarmenmarkt, shows - flanked by the Französischer Dom and the Deutsche Dom - the Schauspielhaus, arguably Karl Friedrich Schinkel's most celebrated building (opened 1821)
