    A LATE VICTORIAN GILT BRASS MOUNTED OAK HALL STAND
    LATE 19TH CENTURY, ATTRIBUTED TO JAMES SHOOLBRED & CO
    In two parts, the hanging rack with turned finials and curved hooks, centred by a mirror with a hinged compartment below, the supporting hooks stamped 'HALL', the lower part with a baluster gallery and central drawer with an umbrella support to either side, with drip tray on block feet, the drawer stamped three times with a diamond registration mark

    James Shoolbred and Company was located on Tottenham Court Road, a thriving centre for fashionable furniture shops from the 1860s. They operated one of the first great department stores in London, and while their trade was diverse, they began producing furniture in around 1870.
