The mounts on this diminutive commode are strongly reminiscent of those used by Bernard Vanrisamburgh (BVRB), one of the great ébénistes of the reign of Louis XV. In particular the stippled reserve (here centred by a flowerhead) enclosed by a border of C-scrolls, also features on a superb commode, formerly in the collection of Edmund de Rothschild at Exbury, and illustrated by Jean Nérée Ronfort, Jean Dominique Augarde and Brigitte Langer in Nouveaux Aspects de la Vie et de l'Oeuvre de Bernard II Vanrisamburgh, published in L'Objet D'Art, No.290, April 1995, p.29-52. An almost identical corner mount featured on a marquetry writing table attributed to Pierre Latz from The Alexander Collection, sold Christie's, New York, 30 April 1999, lot70.
