The bold, bombé form and sculptural carving of this commode relates to the work of cabinet-makers in Provence. Two commodes, with closely related forms and carving and attributed to Nimes and Avignon are illustrated in M.-J. Beaumelle, G &V. Guerre, and P, Jaquenoud, Les Arts Decoratifs en Provence, Aix-En-Provence, 1993, p. 52, figs. 44-45.
