Now in the Wallace Collection, London, where it was listed to Lady Wallace's bedroom in 1898, Jean-Henri Riesener's celebrated sécretaire was acquired by the 4th Marquess of Hertford after its completion circa 1779. The original was also extensively exhibited throughout the 19th century, including the Petit Trianon in 1867 and at Bethnal Green from 1872 through 1875, therefore making the model readily accessible to various ébénistes for reproduction.
