This matched pair of table lamps is undoubtedly 'signature' Caldwell in their incorporation of many of the forms popularized by the firm's works dating to the first quarter of the 19th century. The unique carved turtle-form bases, as well as the arched male figures, were frequently re-imagined by Caldwell for a number of the firm's lighting fixtures (see inset illustration). The firm also produced a standard version of this model, one of which was offered Christie's, New York 24 October 2006, lot 440.
