With its exaggerated bombé form, richly figured veneers, concave frieze drawer and swept apron, this bureau is a typical example of Lombard furniture. A closely related burr walnut bureau in a private collection in Milan is illustrated in S. Columbo, L'Arte del Legno e del Mobile in Italia, Turin, 1989, p.474.
