The dynamic carving of these vases is derived from the 'Vase Centauresse', found in the Maison de Meleagre at Pompeii in 1835. This model was copied in the late 19th century by the foundries of J. Chiurazzi & Fils and Michele D'Amodio who specialised in reproducing bronzes from Pompeii and Herculaneum, catering to the demand of Grand Tourists.
