    Labelled by the cabinet-maker Robert Rough, who succeeded Thomas Paul & Company around 1840, and was established in Ludgate Hill in the 1850s as 'Cabinet Maker, Upholsterer, Appraiser, Auctioneer and Estate Agent'. As well as the furnishing of boats and offices, Rough is particularly celebrated as the furnisher of Kitley, Devon from 1855. His surviving invoices of 1855 and 1857 include a quantity of mahogany bedroom furnishings, but do not list these tables. However the invoices make clear the presence of previous furnishings in the house. See Christie's house sale, Kitley, 19/20 October 1987.
