Operating from large premises at 114, rue du Temple and at 10, rue Charlot from 1867, Paul Sormani specialised in various 'meubles de luxe' and gravitated toward reproductions of Louis XV and XVI revival styles. His works, which were exhibitied at various exhibition, were fêted as "une qualité d'exécution de tout premier ordre". Upon his death in 1877, the firm was taken over by his widow, Ursule-Marie-Philippine Bouvaist, who was known as 'Veuve Sormani' and was joined and later succeeded by her son.
