This sophisticated pair of card-tables have an unual mahogany veneer with a distinctive mottled or 'marbled' figuring. They were almost certainly made en suite to a Pembroke table of identical design that passed through the hands of the London dealers, Norman Adams, as did these tables (both are illustrated in C. Claxton Stevens and S. Whittington, 18th Century Furniture, The Norman Adams Collection, Woodbridge, rev. ed., 1987, pp. 322-323).
