A virtually identical pair of candlesticks adorn the mantelpiece of the the Lantern Room at Rosendal Castle, Sweden. Built between 1823 and 1827, Rosendal was the private residence of King Karl XIV Johan, the first Bernadotte King of Sweden, and was intended as an escape from the formalities of Court at the Royal Palace. The lavish interiors of Rosendal castle arguably rank amongst the most spectacular examples of Empire furnishings in Sweden.
