The same label featured on a clothes-press formerly with Hotspur Ltd and illustrated in D. Jones (ed.), 'An Anthology of Regional Furniture with Maker's Identification', Regional Furniture History, 1993, p.15, no.15. It was also recorded on a dressing-table in the possession of Messrs Harris in 1932 (A Catalogue of Old Furniture, 1932). John Mant, cabinet-maker and auctioneer (1792-1808) was recorded at the High Street, Winchester, between 1805 and 1808 (G. Beard, Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, Leeds, 1986).
We are grateful to John Bedford for his help in preparing this note.
