    With a solid rectangular seat and raised ends, above a reeded frieze, on reeded tapering legs headed by roundels, with remains of a depositary label inscribed 'W. & F. Browns & Co.'s. /32 383 Warehouses Chester.'
    18¾ in. (47.5 cm.) high; 47¾ in. (121.5 cm.) wide; 14½ in. (37 cm.) deep

    This hall seat pattern evolved from a Roman seat pattern, with fluted legs, issued in Charles Heathcote Tatham's Etchings of Ancient Ornamental Architecture, 1799 (pl. 46). See also lot 6.
    A closely related hall bench was sold anonymously at Christie's, London, 9 June 2005, lot 238 (£9,600 with premium), and further related benches were sold more recently from 'The Legend of Dick Turpin', Part I, 9 March 2006, lots 248 (£ 12,000) and 249 (£10,200), respectively.
