The label adopted in 1805 by the Tottenham Court Road cabinet-makers John McLean & Son has been recorded on a related chifonnier secretaire, designed in the French/antique fashion with Pompeian-pillared and Egyptian-reeded corners ( S. Redburn, John McLean and Son, Furniture History, 1978, pp 31-37, pl. 32B). Another of the firms related secretaires is enriched with this pattern of echinous ormolu border; while the Egyptian sunburst handles features on one of their contemporary sofa-tables. (Redburn ibid, pls. 33A and 41 B).
