The Chippendale desk, conceived in the eclectic George II Modern fashion, relates to a Library Table pattern in Thomas Chippendale's Gentleman and Cabinet-Makers Director, 1754 (pl. 85), and appears to have been inspired by the Writing Table from the Percy Dean Collection popularised by Percy Macquoids, History of English Furniture, The Age of Mahogany (London, 1906 pl. XII).
