This mahogany side table epitomises Irish 18th Century furniture design, with its deep foliage carved apron, squared paw feet, and central lion mask. The lion mask was a favourite decorative device of Irish cabinet-makers and is seen in many different forms. Symbolic of Bacchus, this mask is unusual for its naively carved teeth.
