AN OXIDIZED BRASS, SYCAMORE AND MIRROR SIDEBOARD BY EUGENE PRINTZ, 1935
The back of the mirror shows a handwritten date, March 1935, 24th. The same year Printz presented a young lady's bedroom at the Exposition in Brussels comprising an identical cabinet, what might lead to believe the Lot we are offering could very well be the one exhibited in Brussels at the time.
Printz' style evolved in the mid 1930s. He started to introduce more decorative and baroque patterns in his creations, counterbalancing the pure lines of his designs, playing with the idea of lightness and movement, mainly in the plinths or bases of his furniture. With a deep understanding of classical furniture, he was able to reinterprete it in a very personal and stylized way. Brass will also become one of his favorite materials, rendering warmth where light becomes an almost integral part of the piece
