A GOLD, ENAMELLED, PEARL AND SEMI PRECIOUS STONE PENDANT FORMED AS A PARROT PROBABLY FRENCH, 19TH CENTURY
In the Spanish Renaissance style, the white enamel parrot with black enamelled claws resting on a green enamelled branch with pearl drop, the wings and the head set with an emerald framed by blue enamelled sunrays, the body centred with a flower of rubies and diamonds, the later chain with blue, red and white enamel, the ruby set suspension ring with pendant pearl drop
The dating of this pendant is extremely difficult. A mould for a very similar bird is recorded among those made in the workshop of Charles André (1839-1919) (Galerie J.Kugel, Joyaux Renaissance, Paris, 2000, pl. 5a), but this does not necessarily confirm a 19th century date as these moulds were presumably often taken from 16th and 17th century originals.
