Lot Essay

Abu Bakr bin al-Mundhir al-Baytar was chief veterinarian at the court of the Mamluk Sultan al-Mansur bin Qala'un, who ruled three times with intervals (last rule 1309-1340) (The Treasure of Oriental Manuscripts, Abu Rayhan al-Biruni Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences, Tashkent, Unesco, 2012, p.43). However, a note of the first of folio of the present work indicates that it was composed for Sultan Qala'un, al-Mansur bin Qala'un's father.
