Lot Essay

Lady Ela Russell was the elder daughter of Francis Charles Hastings Russell (1819-1891), 9th Duke of Bedford and is responsible for some historically interesting interiors in mixed media in several of the state rooms at Woburn Abbey during the 1880's, including the State Saloon, the Long Gallery and the Holland Library. The present pictures are all based on details of portraits that hang at Woburn Abbey.
