"Throughout a distinguished career that spans more than three decades, Luis Cruz Azaceta has never wavered from his long-term commitment to making poetically expressive art that has something meaningful to say. Although he tends to work in series and has traveled down many stylistic avenues, Azaceta has remained consistent in his ongoing dedication to humanistic concerns. As the artist explained in the late 1980s, his primary goal is "to confront the viewer with life and what we are doing to each other. I hope to awaken in the viewer a sense of compassion."
