the first embroidered in gilt thread with a CC monogramme beneath a coronet, embroidered beneath the flap La Reconnaissance de l'Amitié; and another of cross hatched red leather embroidered in couched gilt thread with the sickle moon and star, with hand of Fatima poppers

Lot Essay

These wallets were usually commissioned by young gentlemen exploring art and culture on 'The Grand Tour'. They often have the owner's name embroidered and sometimes the place of origin, usually in the wider Ottoman Empire.
