While many think of Elvis Presley as a hip thrusting, early rock-and-roll progenitor, his beginnings were deeply steeped in country music. Having grown up listening to the country music of his parents and performing with legends like Hank Snow, the influence of country on Elvis is undeniable. It is perhaps Elvis Presley's first record release that exemplifies the role he played in the cross over from country to rock. Recording rhythm-and-blues on one side, and an old Bill Monroe classic on the other, Elvis rode the line between country and rock throughout his career and his success speaks for itself. He was an amalgam of epic proportions and it served him well.
