    Pre-Lot Text

The following five lots were obtained by a clerk who worked for Avis and acted as chauffeur for The Beatles during their last trip to Hamburg on Sunday, 26 June, 1966. He was on hand to collect the group from the central station, and to ferry them to and from various appointments before their concert at the Ernst Merck Halle that evening.

The last time the group had been to the city was in 1963, when they were relatively unknown and performing at the Star Club. It was a nostalgic time for The Beatles - as Paul has said It was strange to see our old friends in Hamburg. It was as if we'd been mutated into something different and yet we were still the same old boys.
