The seal Xie Hang Lou Cang on the mounting was the collector's seal of renowned artist Fang Junbi (1898-1986). Fang was descended from a prominent family in Minhou, Fujian. As the first Chinese female student to be admitted to the prestigious ?c?le Nationale Sup?rieure des Beaux-Arts, Fang was often honoured as an outstanding artist from the East. She returned to China in 1933 and soon began her career in classical Chinese paintings. Fang sought to develop Chinese landscape paintings through reinterpreting reality and by incorporating Western-style perspective in her paintings.
Fang and her husband Zeng Zhongming are both collectors of seals, paintings, and calligraphy. Part of their collection was exhibited in Geneva in 2002 and featured works of art from Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as from the modern times.
