PROPERTY FROM THE COLLECTION OF CHOI CHING YAN
Born in Chao’an in Guangdong, Choi Ching Yan (1904-1971) was a major contributor to Hong Kong’s early cultural development, and assisted in the funding of the establishment of the New Asia College in 1949. As he was friends with many figures in the art world, he would hold scholarly gatherings at his home, “Zhu Garden,” in North Point in Hong Kong. Depicted in Sun Xingge’s painting is the scenery of Choi Ching Yan home.
An album of landscapes by Wang Shimin will be sold in our Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy sale on 30 May 2016 (Lot 936).
