WU QINGXIA (1910-2008)
FROM THE CHANG FAMILY COLLECTION Raymond Chang Pang Tseng and Cecilia Chang Chen Zhou Ling are natives of Shanghai. In the late 1950s they moved to Hong Kong, where they started their family and acquired these art works. Eventually they settled in the United States in the 1990s and brought with them their collection, which was a source of great pleasure.

Lot Essay

This painting was commissioned from the artist by a relative of Mr. and Mrs. Chang.

Wu Qingxia (1910-2008), originally from Jiangsu province, was an artist who co-founded the Chinese Women’s Calligraphy and Painting Association in 1934. In 1956, she was hired by the Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy for her talents, and eventually her painting was selected to be included in prestigious Japanese publications of art.
