    Post Lot Text

Carl Eisler, in his introduction to Irving Penn Recent Still-Life notes that the photographer's '...assemblages of abstract shapes, constructions of metal and other materials, all recall critical phases in the genesis of Cubism. These photograp[hs come close to American and European sculptors' translation of such analytic experiments from two to three dimensions.' (p. 6)
