    A pair of reproduction portraits of Napoleon I and Empress Josephine, in profile to right and left, respectively: he, in military uniform; and she, in gold tiara
    Ovals, 3 in. (7.6 cm.) high, in rectangular etched mirror mount within maple frame
    The engraving: 257 x 318 mm.
    Together with 'Bouquet de Charles X', by Jean Dominique Etienne Canu, a stipple engraving in colours, on wove, circa 1830 (2)

    Jean-Dominique Etienne Canu (1768-circa 1843) was a student of Nicolas Delaunay (1739-1792); however, little else is known about him. His work comprises Royalist propaganda for the July Monarchy such as the present print extolling the virtues of King Charles X.
