'VENERE ARTIFICIALE', A FIVE PANEL SILKSCREEN ON METHACRYLATE AND MIXED MEDIA INSTALLATION BY GINO MAROTTA, UNIQUE PIECE, 1971
Five series of five panels were created, each conceived differently and forming unique pieces
By quoting great art of past centuries at the beginning of the 1970s, Gino Marotta reflects on the work of artists like Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, Titian, Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, Gustave Courbet and Lucas Cranach. In revisiting history of art, he uses by way of canvas, paint brushes and colours; methacrylate, that he now masters and to which he adds diverse and uncommon materials: pieces of gift wrap, leopard print fabric, feathers and artificial flowers thus giving the past masterpieces a new modernity and an alternative appeal
The present lot is made after the painting by Lucas Cranach the Elder, 'Venus with Cupid stealing honey', circa 1530-1531 in the Museo Galleria Borghese, Rome
