This rug is the 17th century descendant of the 16th century original, and has slightly lost the accuracy of drawing seen in earlier examples. A double niche rug of very similar date and drawing in the spandrels is in the Victoria and Albert Museum (R. Pinner and M. Franses, 'Turkish Carpets in the Victoria and Albert Museum', Hali 24, (vol.6, no.4), no.30, pp.374-5). Interestingly that example also shares with this a yellow border, although filled with cloudband motifs rather than the design seen here.
