This important and widely-published carpet articulates a key transition in McKnight Kauffer's designs. Influenced in part by Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, and other members of the British avant-garde, the Synthetic Cubist planes of his earlier carpets have now been partly abandoned in preference towards the unrestrained, trompe-l'oeil effects of Biomorphism.
