The non-Buddhist deities, Panchika and Hariti, are the dispensers of riches and fertility. Although of Indian origin, the god and goddess are often depicted seated in "European style," as in the present example. For other examples, see W. Zwalf, A Catalogue of the Gandharan Sculpture in the British Museum, 1996, cat. nos. 96-98.
