    Depicted facing to dexter; wearing a broad-brimmed hat and the Order of the Golden Fleece; on a later circular marble ground and in an ebonised, moulded wood frame; the reverse with paper labels inscribed '12' and '287'; very minor damages

    The present finely carved portrait relief of the Hapsburg emperor Ferdinand I appears in inventories of the Baden-Baden collections from at least the 18th century. It reappears in inventories of 1883 and 1919 before being offered for sale in the Baden Baden auction in 1995.
