A Medieval Sword Circa 1350, probably French
In excavated condition, with sharply tapering double-edged blade with indistinct maker's mark on one side, iron hilt, straight quillons of rectangular section thickening at the centre, and wheel pommel with slightly sunken centre on each side

Lot Essay
Said to have been found in Normandy, near Nantes. A similar pommel is found on a sword of circa 1330 recovered from a tomb at Santa Reparata in Florence, illustrated in Boccia & Coelho, 1975, plates 41-42
