    Pre-Lot Text

Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh is the pre-eminent museum of fine and decorative arts, founded by Pittsburgh philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in 1895. His vision was to establish an institution to collect the "old masters of tomorrow", in which he was very successful.

New galleries are due to open in November 2009 and the textiles presented here are sold to support the acquisition funds of Carnegie Museum of Art as it further develops collections with a global perspective.
