This quilt is a very fine example of a soldier's quilt. Military tailors used uniforms of the soldiers taking part in the Crimean War campaign of the 1850s. The quality of these coverlets can range from the utilitarian to the sumptuous. This piece is certainly at the latter end of the spectrum in using very small, finely worked diamonds.
