    Probably for use in one of the Holy Shrines, the red ground divided by horizontal chevrons into a series of alternating major and minor bands of inscription in vigorous muhaqqaq, every other major band with a series of roundels and cartouches with similar inscription, with green cloth backing

    The inscriptions include the Profession of Faith, various invocations, and verses from the Qur'an including Qur'an II, sura al-baqara, v.114: "we have seen thee turning thy face about in Heaven; now we will surely turn thee to a direction that shall satisfy thee. Turn thy face towards the Holy Mosque".

    A very similar woven panel is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (Meisterwerke aus dem Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Berlin, 1981, no.114, pp.268-269). Dated to the 18th century it has very similar inscriptions although written by another hand.
