    LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY
    The first made for a second rank civil official made of summer gauze almost completely embroidered in counted stitch with the long-tailed bird facing the sun as it alights on a rock emerging from waves above a lishui stripe, surrounded by dense clouds, bats and Buddhist emblems, all picked out in shades of dark and light blue, yellowish-green, green, coral, purple and white and outlined in fine gold-wrapped thread, within a border of foliate scroll; the fifth rank military official's black satin rank badge with a bear applied to the badge and worked in fine couched gold and silver thread and satin stitch surrounded by a dense ground of small clouds interspersed with Buddhist emblems
