    the azure blue silk woven with a polychrome floral bouquet and ribbon motif, the robe with ruched trim and flybraid detail, the sleeves with exaggerated deep ruffle, with matching petticoat; together with another petticoat of similar age, woven with a very similar motif (3)

    The similarity of the silks between the robe-and-petticoat ensemble and the additional petticoat is striking. The second petticoat has a plain satin ground and a narrower range of colours, and an additional floral ribbon; however, on first glance, they are close enough to appear matching.
