The first two models to bear the legendary "Explorer" designation were references 6150 and 6350, both introduced in 1953 after the successful ascent of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay. Whereas the first was fitted with the "Precision" movement, the latter featured a chronometer version.
