A PAIR OF EASTERN ROMAN GOLD AND GARNET EARRINGS
CIRCA 2ND CENTURY A.D.
Each u-shaped, formed of sheet with a border of filigree ropes on each side, ridged at the upper end, the obverse with a bezel-set drop-shaped garnet, both sides ornamented with domes, each centered by a granule, clusters of granulation and scrolling filigree twisted wires, the front edge with a domed shield centered by a granule and bordered by twisted wire, the twisted arching hoop hooked around the loop above, an inverted pyramid of hollow spheres and granules along the lower edge
