A ROMAN MARBLE JANIFORM HERM
CIRCA 1ST CENTURY A.D.
Depicting an old and a young satyr, the elder with a long layered beard of curving locks and a thick mustache framing his smiling fleshy lips, with heavy overhanging brows and recessed eyes, his wild hair deeply drilled; the younger with pointed ears, thickly-lidded eyes and a smirking mouth, his hair pulled up above his forehead and bunched, both wearing a wreath of ivy and berries that merge at the sides, the ties falling forward along their necks
