AN ATTIC RED-FIGURED HYDRIA
ATTRIBUTED TO THE CHRYSIS PAINTER, CIRCA 420-410 B.C.
With Dionysos and nymphs on an irregular 'Polygnotan’ ground, a hydria below the left handle, the upper part of a female above each handle, the main scene with standing nymph carrying a tray laden with fruit, another in front holding a jug in her right hand and a kantharos in her left extended towards Dionysos, who sits holding a thyrsos with tympanon beside him, another standing female behind, enclosed palmette and lotus border above, stopt meander and saltire squares below, with ovolo on the lip and handle roots, details in added white
